WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY
Psychology at Self Reflections offers a transformative journey for those navigating mental health challenges or seeking deeper self-understanding.
Our approach is tailored to individuals who are ready to explore and grow, providing a supportive space for healing and personal development.
Through engaging with our psychology services, you can expect compassionate guidance as you uncover insights about your emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns.
WHO IS IT FOR
Our focus is on fostering a positive and enlightening experience, helping you move towards a state of improved well-being and fulfillment. Whether you're dealing with specific symptoms or simply striving for a deeper connection with yourself, our team is here to support your journey every step of the way.
Our psychology services are designed for those who are experiencing mental health symptoms or distress and are committed to understanding themselves on a deeper level. Our approach is ideal for individuals seeking to address specific emotional or behavioral challenges, or for those who are ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. We provide a nurturing environment for anyone looking to engage actively in their treatment and make meaningful changes in their lives.
Our Psychological services may not be the best fit for individuals who are generally doing well and not experiencing significant mental health symptoms or diagnoses. Our Coaching services may be better suited if you need support. Additionally, our approach requires a readiness to engage in the therapeutic process, so it might not be suitable for those who are not yet prepared to commit to ongoing treatment. We aim to provide the most effective care for our clients, and part of that involves ensuring that our services align with the needs and readiness of each individual.

FAQS
-
How do I book an appointment? At Self Reflections we take enquiries via phone, fax or email by the client, their family/carers (with consent) or their referring GP. We encourage all new client enquiries to contact us to ensure we can allocate you to the appropriate clinician, discuss our policies / procedures and fees as well as finalise all required documentation prior to your initial appointment.
-
What will happen before and at my initial appointment?Once you have been allocated an initial appointment you will be sent our online Client Forms that allow us to collect your details, explains your rights as a client as well as provides our policies/procedures to obtain your consent for treatment. In addition you will obtain a pre-treatment questionnaire to help us monitor your progress over your engagement with our service. At your initial appointment, you can expect to be greeted by our Administrative Officers who will be able to answer any further questions and explain any part of the process you may need clarification of. Your clinician will invite you into their consulting room in which they will begin the session. Your first session is an assessment. You can expect to discuss your current mental/physical health state, your current circumstances in life as well as your background, family dynamics and personal history that would be relevant. This is a very important step in your treatment as it enables your clinician to understand what may be impacting you and allows them to establish a plan for treatment that is suitable for your needs. This is also your chance to see if you connect well with your clinician.
-
Can I opt for Telehealth sessions when I need to?Absolutely! At Self Reflections, we offer secure, encrypted and confidential Telehealth services via phone or video as an alternative to face-to-face appointments. You can arrange this at the time of booking or on the day of your appointment. Telehealth sessions are also available for a Medicare rebate. Please check Private Health Insurers as this may differ.

What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan, an Eating Disorder Management Plan and a Chronic Disease Management Plan? What do they all cover? Each is a specific referral plan prepared by your General Practitioner (GP) if you have a mental health disorder or mental health issue, an eating disorder or a chronic disease requiring specialist treatment and support. Your GP will provide the referral/plan that best suits your needs. The referral/plan is used to identity health care needs and states what you, as well as your doctor, are hoping to achieve through treatment. Each referral/plan allows you to rebate a portion of your session cost from Medicare. A Mental Health Treatment Plan covers treatment for a mental health disorder or mental health issue. In total, you are eligible for up to 10 sessions in each calendar year. Initially, your GP will refer you for 6 sessions then ask to see you for a review of your progress before providing you the further 4. An Eating Disorder Management Plan covers treatment for a specific eating disorder. In total, you are eligible for up to 40 sessions for the duration of the plan with your Psychologist and up to 20 sessions with your Dietitian (within a 12 month period). Initially, your GP will refer you for 10 Psychology sessions then an additional 10 at each review. You will also require a Psychiatrist review between session 20 and 21. A Chronic Disease Management Plan covers treatment for chronic diseases and illnesses as well as other issues not previously described above. In total, you are eligible for up to 6 sessions in each calendar year with a variety of allied health professions (eg. Podiatrist, Exercise Physiologist, Dietitian etc) Your clinicians will let you know when you are due for your review and will update your GP about your progress.
-
Who is eligible for rebates through Medicare? If you have a mental health disorder, a mental health issue, a specific eating disorder or a chronic health condition that has been diagnosed by a GP, you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, an Eating Disorder Management Plan or a Chronic Disease Management Plan. It is important to note that approval of a referral/plan is always at the discretion of the GP. We encourage you to further discuss this with your GP to see if you’re eligible and if not, what other options they suggest.
-
Can I use my Private Health Insurance? If you are unable to obtain a plan, or choose not to for any reason, but have Private Health Insurance, you may be eligible for your session to be rebated by your Insurer. Rebates vary depending on your fund and level of cover therefore for further information, you must contact your insurer directly. All of the Self Reflections clinicians are registered with the appropriate Boards and are therefore, approved by Private Health Funds for services provided.
-
What if I do not have a Referral/Plan and do not have Private Health Insurance? If you are unable to obtain a Referral/Plan, choose not to for any reason, or do not have Private Health Insurance, you can still access treatment. Without a referral or private health, a fee will be payable by you at the end of each session without any rebates. This amount varies per clinician and we encourage you to discuss this further with the clinic.
-
Can I continue sessions for as little or as long as I feel is necessary?Regardless of which option you choose to access treatment with (referral/plan, private health or no referral), you are able to continue sessions for as little or as long as you and your clinician deem necessary. Your clinician will discuss the length of your treatment with you and their justification for their suggestion. We encourage you to bring this up if ever you need further clarification. We encourage clients to continue attending treatment even if they start to feel better, this can solidify the progress even further. You and your clinician can then confirm when the most appropriate time to finalise your treatment journey would be given your needs.
